Task Wizard: Volume Shadow Copy

Use "Volume Shadow Copy Service" to copy opened files, Otherwise it will be failed to copy opened files.

If this option is checked, the opened files such as windows registry file, database file, Outlook .PST files can also be copied. If this option is checked, It will take about 1 minute to create the shadow copy before synchronization.

When this option is check at the first time, VSS-Writer tree is filled with the VSS-Writers and components in the system.

This option is grayed out when the sync direction is bi-directional, or the source folder is Outlook, Windows Mail or FTP folder.

Limitations:

1. One NTFS drive is necessary in the system.
2. The source folder can NOT be in the network drive, Outlook, Windows Mail o.

NOTE:

1. On 64bit OS, must run BestSync 64bit to use Volume Shadow Copy option.
2. To use this option, BestSync Application must be "Run As Administrator".
If the task is set to run as windows service, then you need not to run BestSync application as administrator.

HINT:

If you check "Start BestSync when Windows starts", and "Run as administrator" options in "Option"/"General" dialog box, BestSync is started in the highest privilege when an user logon.

The VSS-Writer tree view:-Writer tree view:

button: When this button is pushed, BestSync enumerates the VSS-writers and components in the system, and add them to the VSS-writer tree.

Including or excluding state of the item:

: The VSS-writer or component is excluded from the VSS volume.

: The VSS-writer or component is included in the VSS volume.

: Let VSS service to determine whether this VSS-writer or component should be included into or excluded from the VSS volume.

: The VSS component is excluded from the VSS volume.

: The VSS component is excluded from the VSS volume because it parent VSS-writer is excluded from the VSS volume.

: Error state.
If "Error=Need "Run As Administrator"" message is displayed in the VSS-Writer tree view on Windows VISTA/7/8, please exit BestSync and run BestSync as Administrator.

Click the state icon, the state icon is changed like following:

The error state can not be changed.

The preparing time will be decreased by excluding some unrelated VSS-writers and components from the VSS volume. And more importantly, you can exclude the VSS-writers or components if you do not want to disturb them while VSS volume is being created.
